Joys of Grandmothering

Today I went shopping with my daughter Holly and her youngest son Alexander. He is 2 and very full of himself. Today he is my favorite grandchild in the whole state of Tennessee. I can say this because two of my other grandchildren are in Louisiana and the other two are in Kentucky.

As Holly and I were browsing in Cato's, she decided to check Alexander's diaper. Imagine her surprise to discover he wasn't wearing one! When I asked him where his diaper was, he grinned and said "Mommy's house". Then he proceeded to pee all over himself. Yeah, this is not one of the things I miss about having small children. Though I'm pretty sure my kids never did anything like this. They weren't real big on the getting undressed in public thing.

To add more embarrassment to this situation, Holly had no extra diapers or clothes for Alexander. Poor kid had to wait till we could run to a nearby Walmart and get something for him to put on.

This is even funnier--because I'm the grandma!! I doubt if I could have seen the humor if I was the mom.

leila did that a few times at home. it's amazing how they wriggle themselves out of those with their pants still on!!! i know holly was beyond thrilled you were there to share in this moment...oh, how it would have been overwhelming dealing with it alone! easier to laugh when someone is with you. :)

That is funny! (Not funny at the time, I'm sure...unless you're the grandmother!)

My mom finds amusement in watching me with my kids every day...she likes to remind me how much enjoyment she is getting from this! lol!

It's definitely easier to see the humor when you're "removed" from the situation! We sat behind a couple in church one Sunday who had a little guy giving them a run for their money. Then he gave himself a time-out and stood with his face to the wall. We cracked up. Now, if I was that Mom I don't think I'd be laughing. :)
