Of All the Things I've Lost....

....I miss my mind the most....

Yesterday's post was not intended to be a story about Melody's birth. Blame it on sentiment.

What I had in mind when I started was to ask for ideas about luaus. Melody's party this year is going to have a luau theme and I'm looking for decorating ideas on the cheap. We'll give the girls leis upon arrival and bubbles to play with till everyone gets here. We're planning on doing the limbo, having a hula hoop contest, and a tropical relay race. Food consists of pink lemonade, cupcakes, and fruit kabobs.Lauren is planning to make these cupcakes for the party. I think she just wants an excuse to buy those orange slice candies!

I've been to the dollar store and they have lots of luau stuff. Inflatable monkeys, palm tree garlands, flamingo plates, etc. Any ideas so I don't have to spend tons of money on the stuff that'll probably get thrown away? Thanks!!

You can shred strips into trash bags to make hula skirts. My sister in law made a totem pole out of paint cans for some luau thing. Not sure why they are Hawaiian but it looks great. You can have the kids make their own leis with yarn and flowers and beads. Or you could have them make matching bracelets.

I would give you ideas but it looks like you are on your way to a great party!

.... all though.... REAL luaus are all about food (and the more you have, the better) :)

I have seen tiki torches that were actually pretty cute. All you really need is red/orange/yellow cellophane and the tiki torch (or you can make one if those aren't available!). I've seen people put flashlights in them too but they are cute without the lights too!

Good luck! And tell Melody that I said Happy Birthday!!
