Today is a most wonderful day! The sky is cloudless and blue. The humidity is low. The temp is 70. The birds are singing and bees are humming. But best of all it's Tuesday!

When we recently redid our kitchen, I decided I wanted a buffet or sideboard for extra storage and preparation. Everything I looked at was way over my price range. Searching craigslist brought a place called ReStore to my attention. They take building surplus and furniture donations and resell them to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Darrell and I made a trip and found this entertainment center (?) for $50.
We brought it home, sanded it down, applied primer and a couple coats of glossy black paint. Then Darrell tiled the top with tile we also bought at ReStore. The one foot square tiles were 50 cents each--we may have used eight. Then he trimmed out the edge of the top.
Here's the finished product. We bought baskets to fill the cubbies and use them to hold snacks, etc. The bottom holds small appliances that aren't used very often. I figure we have maybe $75 in this (we already had the primer and paint). I will admit I'm not crazy about the glossy paint and plan to redo it in matte this summer. I also want to get different handles. But like Nester says--it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful!

That is simply gorgeous! Love the idea of using tile on the top. Very nicely done!
Now this is a RE~VAMP, Beverly. Wow! It looks fabulous! I love the wicker baskets, that's very big right now and looks so much better than drawers. I think it looks great now, but I can see your point in using matte, even maybe distrssing it a little if you like that.
I haven't ever been to Craig's List but I have heard such great things and now have "seen" it!! Your hubby did a great job with the tile!!
Have a great week!! :-D

That looks great. Love the little baskets as "drawers."
FABULOUS! You did a great job repurposing that cabinet. I haven't visited our Habitat Restore yet, it's kind of in a bad area, so I'm trying to wait patiently until my hubby can go too!
Thanks for linking up!
That is so beautiful! I love it!
I tried to type the strike out directions to you, but it didn't work. Guess I'll call you!
Looks perfect!...Christine
What a great idea! I am impressed by the tiling job.
The trash can is (dare I say this about a trash can?) beautiful!
I would never have thought of that!
You did a great job with that makeover! What a fun piece it is now.
XO,
Sheila :-)
Hi Beverly,
Your makeover looks wonderful. I love the black and the baskets.

Wow!!! You did an amazing job!

Hi Bev -
I'm happy to dropy by Laurens and offer what I know about Baton Rouge, however, I am 6 hrs away from there and have never been there. But, Princess took a school trip there last month and they saw some neat things I can tell her about...Love your second-hand item. Great job!
That is awesome. We are planning to buy a house soon and what we can afford has really *sad* kitchens. This kind of thing could be used as an island even.
love that makeover!
What a wonderful job you did. I love extra storage in the kitchen area.
Enjoyed my visit-
